Chapter 7
Both Thorne and Wicked were silent on the short ride to the hospital. They followed Slade, who rode ahead of them on a motorcycle. She couldnât believe how much the babies had already overtaken their lives. Not that she regretted it one bit. It was just such a change to what she was used to. Before Thorne, all she had to worry about was herself. And well, Bruce, but her damn familiar was self-sufficient. Yeah, this was a totally new experience for her and a little scary if she were being honest.
They pulled up to the entrance of the hospital and waited for Slade who had gone to park.
âI could have walked,â Wicked said, frowning as she stared at the doors. Hospitals were not her thing. She steered clear of them as much as she could. It was just a sad and depressing place.
Before Slade hurried toward them and opened her door, Thorne had gotten out and was there to help her out of the car.
âWeâll wait inside until you park,â Slade assured him as he and Wicked went inside.
As they stood waiting for Thorne, Wicked remained still, not wanting to look around.
âHey.â Sladeâs deep voice penetrated her thoughts.
âYes.â She looked up at him.
âYouâre going to be fine and so are those babies, so stop worrying,â Slade said, with such conviction she believed him.
âI know,â she replied, then frowned, looking around. âI just hate hospitals.â
âMe too,â Slade replied. His grin quickly followed when she laughed.
âBut youâre a doctor.â Wicked noticed how all the women who passed couldnât take their eyes off Slade. âYou canât hate the hospital.â
Slade chuckled. âWell I do. Guess that makes me not such a good doc, huh.â
A woman purposely bumped into Slade, then excused herself with such a flirty voice Wicked wanted to punch her. She really wished her magic wasnât unpredictable because sheâd definitely do something to the woman.
âYou married?â Wicked asked after giving the woman the nastiest glare she could muster.
âYes.â
Glancing back up at Slade, she frowned. âPoor thing. I bet she has to put up with that kind of stuff a lot.â
âJill doesnât care,â Slade replied with a smile. âShe knows I only have eyes for her, and she is very confident in that fact. I make sure of it.â
Thorne walked in at that moment, and they headed deeper into the hospital after Slade stopped to inform them who he was and to get directions to where they needed to go. During all this, Wicked didnât really pay attention to that, but she did notice that women were now looking at Thorne the same as they were looking at Slade. She didnât like it one bit.
Finally, they were in an elevator, just the three of them heading up. Once the door opened, Slade walked purposely down the hall where they were met by an older nurse.
âDr. Buchanan?â she asked, and Wicked had to give her credit for not looking surprised when Slade answered her. âDr. Morris is on his way, but I can get Wicked prepared for the sonogram.
